Fox Point Art Club

(This page is under construction. Feel free to look, but expect updates.)

In 2023 I started an artwork critique and collaboration group in Providence RI. As the founder and de facto leader of the club, I was able to take full control of our brand and visual identity.

The F.P.A.C. Daemon

The Daemon is our mascot and logo.

There are many advantages to having a character represent the group. It can be used like a typical logo, but can also be made to interact with its surroundings.

Appearance communicates character instantly. The character of Art Club is mischievous, playful, sarcastic, genuine, and inviting. The Daemon embodies these clashing ideals.

Equal parts Kiki and Bouba.

Pitchfork, barbed tail, claws, and horns.

Round belly, toddler proportions, curly tail, and wide eyes.

Well, it looks like you found the hidden text. I'm still working on this presentation and will add more detail shortly.

Breaking down the design

Format.

I wanted the posters to be large to catch attention on providence's flyer covered utility posts. It's dimensions are specifically tailored to fit on a utility post.

Monochrome.

The poster was designed to be screen printed in white ink on black fabric. These were the materials and techniques I had available at the time.

Negative overlaps

Large shouting text.

This was the founding poster, so I wasn't trying to be coy with what my goal was. My goal is to find people who want to start as art group, so it is expressed boldly and plainly.

Square grid

This grid of squares overlays the entire image and are never covered by other design elements, but they are sometimes respected by other design elements. Occasionally a square will overlap with text and make it difficult to read. This is bad, therefore it's funny, therefore it's good. That's the point.

Founding Poster

This poster was screen printed on black fabric and stapled to utility poles around Providence. I went for a tall format to take advantage of the vertical space available on a utility pole.

An alternate version printed in black on white vinyl.

First Party Invite

A quick instagram promo for our first party as a club.

Club Bedtime Flyer

A poster advertising CLUB BEDTIME, which was a party and small exhibit of light artwork.

Yard Sale Flyer

An 8.5"X11" flyer created to promote our group yard sale.

Go! Exhibit Banner

This banner hung at the entrance to our first art show as a club. It is 74"X18" and was digitally printed on white vinyl.
